Acupuncture in our clinic recently – What have people come in for?

Recently, there has been a wide variety of conditions that people have brought in to seek help with. Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine are often seen as promoting “general” health and well-being, given the diverse range of issues that can arise. Sometimes, multiple or complex issues present simultaneously.

Musculoskeletal Pain
One person came in with a sore arm that had been bothering them for months. They noticed significant improvements for several days after the first session and between follow up treatment

Shoulder and Nerve Pain
Another person visited the clinic with severe shoulder pain (rated 8/10) that radiated down their arm toward their fingers. Because the pain was severe they required two treatments in the first week, prior to other follow ups, but experienced a significant reduction in both shoulder and nerve-related pain by the second session.

Shoulder Pain: Rotator Cuff Issues
Some individuals present with rotator cuff pain, limited range of motion, and discomfort during certain movements. Acupuncture can often help to simultaneously reduce pain and increase Range of Motion

TMJ and Jaw Tightness
Many people suffer from jaw tightness and teeth grinding. Often, this isn’t their primary concern when they seek treatment. For example, someone might come in for lower back pain, but after discussing their broader health, we discover significant TMJ-like symptoms, such as jaw stiffness and temple headaches. Many patients experience considerable relief from these symptoms through treatment.

Pain, Tight Neck, Shoulders, and Limited Range of Motion (ROM)
One patient saw significant improvements after their first session—pain decreased, and their ability to rotate their neck increased. Typically, in the clinic, we use a “trial phase” or “assessment phase” of treatment. Depending on the severity, we evaluate progress over 2–4 sessions to determine how well acupuncture is working and to establish the most suitable treatment frequency.

Digestive Imbalance
Some patients report heaviness and tightness in the core and digestive areas of the body. Acupuncture can sometimes be helpful to restore digestive balance.

Sleep Issues, Internal Pain, and Inflammation
One individual was waking up multiple times during the night due to pain and inflammation. After treatment, they noticed a significant reduction in the number of times they woke up and a decrease in pain intensity.

Musculoskeletal and Lower Back Pain. Stress and tension: One other thing that happens, in particular with people experiencing high stress and tightness, is the sense of relaxation that Acupuncture brings

Hip Pain
Hip pain can either come as the primary concern or together with Lower Back pain, which sometimes also include leg, knee or foot pain

Significant Lower Back Pain
One person arrived at the clinic needing support to walk, struggling to get up and navigate stairs due to nearly 10/10 pain. By their fourth session, they were moving quickly, easily, and freely, getting up and walking without pain. They were very happy with their progress.

At Wuest Acupuncture, we practice an integrative approach to Acupuncture, with a core focus on Neoclassical Acupuncture, whilst being trained in other systems like Balance Method, Motor Point, Dry Needling and Traditional Chinese Medicine Acupuncture. Other systems are used when it is more appropriate for the person, or to change approaches for better outcome.
